Walking tour in Zadar - 3 September

We did a very interesting walking tour in Zadar.  It began with an almost 20 minute overview of who Zadar had been invaded by and belonged to over the centuries.   With its superior port access, this coastline was a prized possession in the never-ending conflicts.

There were six of us on the tour; two Baltic ladies, Dutch couple Marvin and Joyce and Sam and me.  A few comments led us to believe Sam and I were considered to be a couple (yet again) and of course then our behaviour did everything to confirm it, as in the "not that there's anything wrong with that" Seinfeld episode.  For example, as we were negotiating a sailing tour with the travel agent after, Sam laid on her hand gently on my arm a couple of times to get my attention about something.  When Sam would lag behind taking photos, I  helpfully said "don't worry, she'll catch up - she's always doing this".  Ensue knowing glances ....

After the tour we dined at Stipe, as recommended by our guide.  Food was quite ordinary, service was amusing in its disdain for us, which we encounter somewhat regularly in Croatia.  Bottle water deposited unopened to the table, menu snatched from my hand after ordering and asking for my credit card for payment without showing me the bill.  We suspect it's a combination of natural demeanor and language challenges - it is not insulting and is often amusing in its abruptness.

We were excited to hear not only was there an Andy Warhol exhibition in town, but on Friday nights it was accompanied by Studio 54 music and dance.  We looked forward to attending this for days, but were thwarted in our attempt to enter on Friday night.  Another story.

Joyce and Marvin

Local delicacy - award winning sheep cheese

So many picturesque lane ways

Ruins aplenty - no restrictions on touching climbing sitting on these parts

Such shiny cobblestones

Ruins surrounded by restaurants

Although we missed out on the Studio 54 experience, Sam did win the heart of a human statue.  I'm afraid I had to call time on their quickly developing romance (well on Vlad's part anyway) or we would never have made it home before our 430am wake up call.
No, Sam did not have a drinking straw up her nose - the photographer was a bit tired at this point :)
